It was time to bid farewell to Joey and Gelle before they migrate to Australia next year, so last Saturday, we met up for brunch at the Books & Cranny cafe in Esplanade.
We chose the place because I was going to watch the Les Miserables musical at the Esplanade theatre at 2pm.
The cafe is beside the library, so while waiting for the cafe to open, I walked inside the library and was flooded with memories. Years ago, I used to frequent to frequent this specific library – it was my solace. One of my most memorable moments here was how I headed here right after getting retrenched in 2009, with all my office stuff in paper bags, so I could find a book to comfort me.
The cafe finally opened at 11:30 am even though the website says 11:00. We took a seat at the table right in front of this pretty wall.
It looks really cozy, right? You can even read some of the books on those shelves. (I have a confession: I was tempted to.)
They had a very minimalist menu.
You have to go up to the counter to place your orders, and they don’t accept credit cards.
I ordered the teriyaki chicken rice.
It was not too bad.
We also ordered chicken nuggets and truffle fries for sharing. Gelle really liked the chicken nuggets.
I loved the mint mocha.
At first it was just five of us, but after a while, Brian and Elma showed up with their son Bryce.
I love Bryce. He’s such a funny kid who says all sorts of entertaining things.
I had to leave early so I could head off to watch Les Mis, but I’m really glad I had a chance to say farewell to these two!
