After our bubble soccer game, our team went on to have dinner at the famous JB Ah Meng restaurant at Geylang. My teammates were excited to bring me there for a truly local experience.
This is a lot tastier than your typical meehoon in Singapore. Everyone was very impressed by the taste. The top part has crispy noodles, and the middle part is full of tasty meat, egg, and veggies.
We had two orders of the white pepper crab, which costs 50 bucks per plate with 2 crabs each. We all agreed that this white pepper crab tastes much better (tastier and saucier) than the one we had at No Signboard in Esplanade.
I liked this crab more than the white pepper one. My teammates had no idea what the ingredients were, but according to my research, its dry, spicy sauce is made up of 20 ingredients, including curry powders, homemade sambal, bean paste, topped with fried curry leaves all over. This is my first time to try this dish.
Okay, I don’t actually remember what this dish really is called. It’s good, but not really as special as the others.
We had to have veggies in an effort to pretend that we are having a healthy meal.
Any meal with crabs in it is probably not healthy, though, no matter how much veggies you throw in.
This was my favourite dish of the night. I’m always a fan of salted egg yolk, but this is my first time to have a dish with it AND corn kernels, which is another favourite of mine. And oh, prawns are my fave too, so this dish was just so much win! 😋
We enjoyed our dinner, which was surprisingly not that expensive, at less than $250 for everything, including the drinks. If I ever go back next time, I will make sure to preorder their clams with garlic and chili!
