It’s that most wonderful time of the year again, so last Friday, my team had our team Christmas dinner at Esquina, a very popular Spanish restaurant. We made reservations through Chope only on the day itself because we got too busy with work, but luckily managed to score an outdoor table for 8pm.
We each started off with a glass of Cava sparkling wine with two oysters, which was on promo for the night.
We ended up ordering a lot of special items that are not on their menu.
Evelyn was so excited when she heard the waitress mention Padron peppers because she really loved it when she first tasted it in Spain. It’s a really simple dish of peppers in olive oil and salt, but it works!
Carabineros is apparently a special kind of shrimp that is a striking bright red colour even before it’s cooked, and not that easy to find, so we had to have it, naturally.
We were all so happy upon finding out that they had foie gras because we really love that and didn’t expect to find it in a Spanish restaurant. It’s one of the best I’ve tried. So much so that Guohao ordered a second batch for him and me to split.
We all loved the pork jowl. It was so good!
We also ordered a bottle of white Rioja to share.
We were served complimentary mini sangria sorbets in cones for dessert.
Then we ordered every single dessert on their menu. The cheese foam with raspberries seemed keto-friendly, so I had a lot of that. The warm chocolate fondant was a hit. The curry ice cream with coconut was something nobody understood nor liked.
In between plates, we exchanged gifts. Our theme for this year was to give a gift that represented the person that you picked. We each showed our gift while the others tried to guess who it was for.
My gift for Guohao was this lightbulb lamp because he is full of ideas.
Nic’s gift for me is not a phone. I am holding his phone which has a picture of his gift which he had forgotten to bring. 😄It’s a stress relief pillow spray.
Overall, it was a fun team event!
