My blog is 15 years old today.
So I thought I should do an update post about what the year has been like so far.
So. 2020. You have been such a rollercoaster so far!
New Year’s Eve
I decided that I wanted something new for the new decade, so I got my hair dyed ombre-style at Infinity Hair Art in Parkway Building. This is new because I’ve never intentionally done ombre before.
Then I bought a blue polka dotted blouse in Uniqlo because Filipinos have a New Year’s superstition – we have to wear polka dots on New Year’s Eve to attract prosperity for the year. Also, blue is 2020’s Pantone colour.
I wore said blouse to a small gathering with friends in our apartment.
New Year’s Day
On New Year’s Day, I took a flight to Manila. I met up with Maya on my short stopover there. And yes, I was wearing polka dots again because I really want to attract prosperity in the ’20s okay?
Family Reunion @ El Nido, Palawan
I flew to Puerto Princesa, Palawan the next day and met up with my parents, my brother, his kid and wife, and her parents and brother. We all piled into a rented van and drove for 6 hours to El Nido for a short but sweet vacation. Below is my fave pic, the rest is in this blog post.
Weight Loss
Starting in November last year, I’ve been taking Pruvit exogenous ketones as weight loss supplements and going on a weekly one-to-one HIIT session with a personal trainer. Result: 4 kilos down, and about an inch loss everywhere. Here’s a before and after:
A Surprise Twist
One day, a friend asked me to send me her CV because they might have an opening for me in their office in Canada. I’ve been wanting to move to Canada for years, so I decided to update my CV and send it to her.
The very next day after she sent it to her boss, I got an email from their company HR asking if I wanted to interview for a position… in Hong Kong.
I wasn’t interested at first, but my friend told me maybe I should just give it a try and tell the interviewers that it was Canada I was really interested in. I was intrigued by the role, so I said okay, and interviewed for it, not really expecting much.
I was convinced to accept the job offer when they said I could use it as leverage for moving to Canada someday, and also because the role itself is interesting and is a higher position, so it’s also a good move for my career.
Is it a stretch to call it serendipity? Not really. The role opened just a few days before I sent in my CV, and it was perfect for me. I find it hard to believe that it’s mere coincidence.
So of course, I couldn’t say no to this opportunity.
Is it scary? Of course. Terrifying. But also exciting.
P. S. Looks like those New Year polka dots actually worked!
Visitors from Japan
My friends Nantoy and Lang-Lang, who are based in Tokyo, Japan, dropped by Singapore and we celebrated Valentine’s week together with Jemma. It was good for us former flatmates to reunite just before all the travel restrictions happened.
Pandemic
My 2020 was off to a fantastic start, then the Covid-19 pandemic happened. Today these are the numbers:
This is where Philippines and Singapore are at:
I started working from home last week. Singapore is not locked down like other countries, but a lot of precautionary measures have been introduced.
It’s not all gloom and doom, though. I’ve been video-conferencing with my friends so that’s been fun.
Maybe this topic deserves a separate blog post, I have too many thoughts on the matter and besides, I need to go coz I have a video conference to attend to. KTB for now!
