2020 – the longest year of our lives – finally came to an end!
2021 came swooping in with some happy news: Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin – stars of last years’s popular K-drama series Crash Landing On You – are confirmed to be dating! ☺️
I don’t care if you think I’m shallow. After the crazy year that was 2020, I just want some news to make my heart happy, okay?
Anyway, I had a New Year’s Eve celebration with my friends May and Mico last night. They booked a room in Grand Hyatt Hotel so that they could watch the fireworks, but unfortunately, thanks to Covid-19, those were cancelled. We still hoped that maybe there would still be something, though.
May and I dressed up in polka dots because that’s a Filipino new year’s superstition to attract prosperity in the upcoming year. I don’t know if you can tell, but my skirt also has tiny polka dots in it. Overkill, much? 😂
I found the gold-coloured “Happy New Year!” hats from The Great Food Hall in Pacific Place.
Another Filipino new year superstition is to eat round food for NYE. Actually, it’s typically just 12 round fruits, one for every month of the upcoming year. But again, we went overkill. 😂
I saw a Pizza Hut flyer that advertised the limited edition cheese bomb pizza, which came with cheese balls, so we decided to order that. There were four flavours for the cheese balls – basil tomato, truffle butter, butter crream, and jalapeno nacho. My faves were the first two.
May bought a bunch of round desserts and oranges from Marks and Spencer which we arranged on the table.
At midnight, we ran to the window to await fireworks but… nope, there was nothing. There was just a scrolling greeting on one of the buildings. I guess that’s better than nothing?
May opened the wire casing holding the cork on the bottle of Moet Chandon champagne and to our shock, the cork flew off towards the ceiling without need of a corkscrew. 😱 I’m just glad she wasn’t aiming the bottle towards her face or somewhere with breakable items!
We sipped our bubbly, blew our festive horns, quickly gobbled up 12 Smarties chocolates each, and for some reason ended up talking till 3 am! I tried to say goodbye way before that but I guess the conversation just got compelling?
When I headed downstairs, Mico joined me because he said he was excited to feel what 9 degrees celsius – which is the lowest that the temperature has dropped so far this season – felt like. I don’t know if it was the champagne or my thick cardigan, but it didn’t feel that cold, actually.
My Uber driver cancelled at the last minute, but luckily, at that specific moment, a taxi arrived, dropping someone off right in front of me, so I was able to take it home. What are the odds of this happening at 3am? Maybe it’s a good omen for the upcoming year? Who knows.
We’ll see what 2021 has in store for us.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
