No I did not invent that word, that’s actually the term used by Kerry Hotel. What it means is you can stay for the day but not overnight, which is when it becomes a staycation.
My friend May and I decided to book a daycation slot which includes pool day pass and set lunch for H$500. We went during a vacation leave to avoid the crowds. We’ve resigned ourselves to the fact that Covid-19 won’t be ending anytime soon and we have no hope of travelling this year, so might as well put our VLs to good use!
The entrance is at the fourth floor of the hotel. I filled out a form at this pretty lobby outside the gym.
Then the receptionist strapped on a pool pass bracelet on my wrist and gave me a meal stub for my lunch. Someone then showed me to the female bathroom area which housed lockers, shower rooms, toilets, changing areas with hair dryers, and what looks like a sauna.
After changing into a swim suit and stashing my stuff into a digital-locked locker, I walked outside and was led through a path to the pool area outdoors .
I was floored by that view. I had come in with zero expectations and did not expect this beautiful infinity pool against a backdrop of the sea.
I chose the loungers with the most shade and spread out my pool side staples on the side table: Caudalie grape water, UV Cut sunscreen, Kindle, sunglasses, and floppy hat.
I sprayed on sunscreen all over my body but forgot to get my back, which I paid for dearly later when I got sunburned. 😅 Kids, don’t forget to sunblock your back!
While waiting for May, I put on my hat and sunnies and lay back on my deck chair to read. In my prone position, I noticed how pretty the sky looked against the umbrella and had to take a snap.
When May arrived, a friendly waiter named Jackel came over and asked us if we wanted to order our set lunch. May and I both chose the fish tacos option.
It was smaller than I expected. I mean, no guy would feel full with that, so you might need to order more food if you’re a guy. It also came with a fruit platter though.
The meal didn’t come with drinks so we looked at the drinks menu and decided to go for the three-hour free-flow package.
There’s actually a back page to this menu which I forgot to take a picture of. The package included soda water, so we had that along with Aperol Spritz, Belvedure mule, Belvedure spritz, and Johnnie Walker highball.
Now, May and I are not heavy drinkers and usually just drink for social occasions, so your girls were smashed at the end of the day. So this is what day drinking is like!
By the way, we are both wearing Gentle Monster sunglasses which we had bought at the same time while out wandering at the K11 Musea mall a few months ago. I had been eyeing the Her sunglasses for months because I loved the way it looked on Yoon Seri in Crash Landing On You. 😅 I bought that coz it looks best on me, while May bought Rick coz it looks better on her smaller face.
Anyway, Jackel was very attentive and friendly. When I commented that the Aperol Spritz was bitter, he asked if I wanted to try a version using his recipe which swaps soda water with Sprite. I nodded, and he came back with one and his version was sweeter and drowned out the bitterness better!
We lounged around and just chatted til our 3 hour drinks buffet was up. OMG talk about sulit. 😅 We are not rich people okay so please forgive us for being practical.
But maybe it was a good idea because by the time we started swimming, everybody else was done and we had the pool to ourselves.
I love this photo that May took of me:
A friend commented that it looks like I have the South China Sea to myself. 😂
At some point, everyone else left and we had the whole place to ourselves.
Jackel gave us one more free drink each even after our cut-off and an extra ice cream cup. That was so nice of him!
The pool pass was valid from 9am to 6pm so of course we stayed until 6pm. Sulit! 😂
We later found out that it was a good idea to come on a non-weekend/non-public holiday because apparently today, a public holiday, had 60 bookings. We never would have enjoyed it as much as we did yesterday!
May and I were so pleased with our day that we decided to do this again next month on her birthday. So stay tuned for that, as shall we!
