Sometime during the week, my Filipino colleagues and I had lunch at Big Birdy in Wan Chai.
Here’s the menu:
Most of us picked the lunch set which comes with a choice of starter, main, side, and drink for H$115.
I chose the soup for my starter. It was a pumpkin soup with a side of toast. It was the blandest soup I have ever tasted. I even briefly got worried: “Do I have Covid-19? Why can’t I taste anything?” I was glad when my colleague confirmed that it was bland for him, too. I even asked for some salt and pepper to try and remedy it but it didn’t work. I eventually gave up and just didn’t eat it.
I chose the little birdy as main and charred mixed vegetable as side. I was so excited to try the grilled peri peri chicken because back in Singapore, one of my favourite restaurants was Nando’s, which makes delicious peri peri chicken.
So imagine my disappointment when Big Birdy’s peri peri chicken turned out to be bland. The chicken itself does not seem to be marinated, I think?
Sure, there were a lot of sauces available, from lemon and garlic to insanely hot, but that really isn’t enough to save the bland chicken. I have to say I liked the lemon and garlic sauce, though.
I had the lemonade for my drink and it was okay.
My colleague said their chicken and waffles tasted good, though. So maybe if you really wanna give them a shot, go for that.
