2014, I Love You, Goodbye

So it’s that time of year again.

I’ll jump right in, okay? Okay.

I started 2014 on an optimistic note. The chosen Pantone color of the year was a shade of my favorite color, so I assumed that it MUST be a sign that it was going to be a good year for me, right? Obviously.

On top of that, my Chinese horoscope promised a great year for me too.

So was it?

Well it certainly did not start off that way. I happily danced into the year, only to fall flat on my face sometime in April when I wrote this post about how pain is a necessary evil. I got so depressed that I cut my hair short for the first time since I moved to Singapore.

I know that quote is overused whenever women get a haircut, but I actually meant it. My life did change after that. How? See below.

Most Memorable Moments

  • I took the IELTS exam. In case you don’t know, this exam is an English proficiency test that is required for migrating to certain other countries. I scored an overall band of 8 (perfect score is 9). I tried to apply for migration, but it didn’t work out. Oh well, at least I tried.
  • While last year was the year that my blog started getting recognition in the blogosphere, this year was when it started getting recognition in Singapore, when I started to get free product/service samples to review and invites to blogger events.
  • My VP recommended me for a new position at work sometime in September, and it turned out to be my dream job. I love the work itself, the flexible schedule, and the very enthusiastic and appreciative SVP, who gave me a promotion after only 3 months in the role. BEST. BOSS. EVER. So, you see, my Chinese horoscope came true.
  • I travelled to the breathtakingly beautiful beach of Langkawi, Malaysia, with my college besties. I somehow never got around to blogging about it though. Oops. I shall remedy that ASAP.
  • My younger brother got married, and I was a bridesmaid. So I flew home for the Christmas holidays for the first time since 2011.
