Yesterday was my last day in UAPL, so my lunch buddies said I could pick where I wanted to eat. I pondered where was the most memorable place that we had lunch and it came to me in a flash – “Let’s go to the aligaga place!” The place I was referring to is actually a small Italian restaurant in UE Square called Spizzico. The reason why we called it such is because there is one Italian waiter there who is so aligaga (loosely translated means over eager) when he serves us, acting as though there is a customer service exam that he has to ace. On our first visit, he insisted on changing our plates after each course even though we said he didn’t need to, explaining that “This is not a fast food restaurant.” He amuses me that’s why I wanted to go there one last time, but aside from that, this place was also memorable for me because it was here that I treated the girls to lunch on my very first UAPL paycheck.
So off we went, and sure enough, Mr. Aligaga was on duty. He suggested we take the executive lunch sets on promo, but we all decided to order the 12sgd lunch set instead. Each set consisted of your choice of appetizer (soup or salad), pasta or pizza, dessert (panna cotta), and coffee or tea.We chose two pasta and two pizzas and shared them. They have really good pizza. The pasta is not bad, too. The panna cotta is my favorite. We were not able to finish off the pizza, though, because they are so huge, so we had the leftovers packed for takeaway. After we had already left the restaurant and were on our way out the mall’s door, we were shocked to hear someone say “Goodbye ladies!” at our back. Mr Aligaga had followed us outside. How aligaga indeed!
I sure will miss these lunches. But as Betchie told me today, “Hindi pa tayo tapos!” (we are not yet done!) Looking forward to fulfilling that half day plan.
