Today is Easter Sunday, and to celebrate that, Yves planned a feast, asking her friends if they wanted to join and contribute in an order of lechon de leche (roast suckling pig), pancit and kare-kare which she ordered from GP Asian Restaurant, a Filipino restaurant in Lucky Plaza.
Arlyn and I were late for the call time of 1pm so by the time we got there, they had already dug into the lechon, so I wasn’t able to get a picture of the whole thing.
Our verdict – the lechon de leche was disappointing. The pig was smaller than we expected, only 5 kilos, and it didn’t taste that good either. The lechon skin, which is its best part, wasn’t crispy at all, and the spices used weren’t premium so the meat also didn’t taste delicious.
“No repeat business!” Dexter commented.
We couldn’t help but compare it to the small lechon that Yves ordered from Mang Kiko’s two years ago for her birthday. She would’ve ordered there but they have stopped making lechon baboy, sticking to chicken.
We loved the pancit, however. I’m not so sure what my stand is on the kare-kare, since I’m not really a fan of that dish to begin with. I suppose it was okay. Still, I enjoyed my meal, perhaps because the calamansi and garlicky vinegar dip made everything taste better. Or maybe I was just hungry, having skipped breakfast.
My favorite part of the meal, however, was dessert, when our hosts announced that there was ice cream in the freezer. Yves and Betchie both work for Unilever, so they get free giant tubs of Carte Dior ice cream every now and then plus have discounts on other brands like Wall’s and Ben and Jerry’s.
See that huge tub of ice cream I’m holding below? They once gave me one to take home and it took me and my housemates weeks to finish it.
I was most excited, however, when Sash took out a pint of our favorite Ben and Jerry’s chocolate macadamia ice cream. We both sort of hyperventilated like a couple of idiots.
I haven’t read my camera’s manual yet so I wasn’t sure how to take successive timer shots. Well at least I got the timer to work. Teehee.
Then Edmond, one of Yves’s friends who is a camera enthusiast, took an interest in my camera and showed me how some of the modes work, yey! It’s been a happy easter day so far. 🙂
