Arlyn and I were in for a treat last Saturday – one night at Moon 23 Hotel for free, courtesy of our “sponsor,” her brother Armar, who needed her out of their new condo for his housewarming party with his friends. LOL.
We were pretty excited because the photos on their website look very pretty, and Armar had actually been wanting for us to have a staycation there for a while. He got us the cheapest room and topped up for the mini bar and breakfast.
Arlyn and I excitedly made our way over there in the afternoon, meeting up in Bugis to ride a cab there because we were too lazy to try and figure out how to walk there.
The lobby looked pretty promising.
We were handed the card keys to our room on the fifth floor, and we rode the lift up there and opened the door to this:
It was cozy, nicely decorated room, but a lot smaller than I expected. Their website photos are very misleading. :-/
One other thing we were disappointed with? Look at the mini bar.
The bathroom had one of those giant shower heads, but no bath tub.
I suppose it was totally our fault for having such high expectations. We just got the value for what we – or rather, Armar – paid for. The suites are probably better, as they are supposed to have their own outdoor baths or mini pools.
We turned on the TV and watched it for a while. Only the local channels were available, so we were limited to only two – channel 5, the English channel, and the travel channel. Luckily we brought our laptops along and they had complimentary wifi, so we were not too bored.
At around 6pm we left the room to look for a place where we could have dinner. The place is a 10 minute walking distance from both Little India and Bugis MRT. We did not go that far, only up to Sim Lim Square, which did not seem to have any eating places in it. We quickly left, afraid that someone would try to swindle us out of our money, which the place is notorious for.
We ended up at the food court beside our hotel’s building. I ordered sweet and sour fish which was okay, but nothing outstanding.
We bought some junk food at a nearby Cheers grocery store and went back into our hotel room, back to our laptops and the local TV, which was playing an episode which featured the story of what I am sure is the famous controversial Flor Contemplacion story but with the names changed. I told Arlyn it was a funny coincidence that my roommate and I were talking about it the previous night.
One more gripe: the air conditioner blew warm air, despite being adjusted to its maximum (or is it minimum?) of 16 degrees. I thought this was ridiculous because the air conditioner in my own bedroom is set at 25, and it’s a lot colder than that!
I had drank iced coffee for dinner so I couldn’t sleep, and the room’s settings only made it more difficult to do so. I eventually did drop off at around 2am.
The next morning, Arlyn woke me at around 8:30 am so we could have breakfast downstairs.
There was quite a spread to choose from – toast, croissant, muffins, yogurt, baked beans, cheese sausages, veggies, fruits, and a lot of drinks.
We went back upstairs where I was able to get some shut eye before checking out at noon.
Then we headed to Arlyn and Armar’s new condo, which I realized was a lot prettier than the hotel room we had just been in. It’s a one bedroom flat with minimalist decorations. They got it half furnished and bought the rest of the furniture which all fit perfectly into the place as though they had been part of it the whole time. It really is so pretty! I forgot to take pictures so you will just have to take my word for it.
We watched TV shows on AXN and I had a lot of fun catching these shows for the first time – Supernatural and Asia’s Got Talent. Armar warmed up pizza and chicken for our lunch, and it was yummy.
Later on we went to their rooftop with Pringles chips, Chef Tony’s jalapeño cheese popcorn, and cider, and lounged around the pool. I fell half asleep to the soothing sound of the pool’s trickling water, and woke up in time to count the stars in the sky.
Then we headed outside and had dinner at a Thai restaurant which served crazy spicy basil chicken. Arlyn was hesitant to order milk tea due to the case of 2 people dying from drinking it in the Philippines. I told her that one probably had poison mixed in it.
It was a lovely way to end the weekend. Thanks, both, most especially our hotel sponsor, Armar.
Can’t wait to go back. Be prepared, guys! Bwahahaha.

Moon Hotel’s Moonlight Suite has always been on our mind! We were obvious captivated by that image from the website. Hah! We would have gone to this instead of One Farrer Hotel & Spa if the room was available. After reading your experience, let’s just say Moon Hotel can be push back for a little while longer. 😡

That’s the tiniest room I’ve ever seen and what? No wine in the mini fridge? Pffft! Well it’s lost the Brit vote!

It sounds like a fun adventure, even if the room was smaller than advertised. And now you have me wanting some spicy basil chicken. That sounds great.
