My teammate Guohao went on a business trip to New Jersey and Halifax and spent three days trying to get back to Singapore. I warned him about flying United Airlines. 😅
But his woes didn’t end when the plane landed on Singapore soil, though. As he waited for his baggage – you guessed it – they never arrived. Apparently United Airlines (again) never even loaded them on the plane.
He finally got them this morning, though, and inside it were our presents from our teammates in Halifax.
I was so excited about the salt water taffy because I have always read about them in books and wanted to try them. (Sounds familiar? It’s like my line about Pimm’s in my London Borough Market post. 😂)
I spent a bit of time arranging my taffy shots, by the way, much to my teammates’ amusement.
They look so pretty, don’t they? ☺️
I expected them to taste salty because of the name, but they actually don’t have any hint of saltiness in them at all, even though the ingredient list includes salt (and water). They all taste sweet instead, but with different flavours depending on the colour, like the brown swirly ones are caramel, the pink-and-white ones peppermint, and the black ones I suspected to be licorice turned out to be that, so I had to spit them out into the trash because blech! Their consistency is chewy, like fruitella or tootsie roll. Overall, I like them, except for that licorice one.
I liked the maple syrup flavoured nuts, which I had already tried before, as well as the rum cake, which GH not-so-carefully cut up into pieces with my knife. While it does reek of rum, it also kinda reminds me of banana cake, for some reason. So think rum-soaked banana cake, maybe?
But the most special item in the whole bunch was a purple Pez which my teammate Paula had specifically bought for me.
She did it because we discovered that we both have the same favourite colour – purple. 😄 So sweet!
The funny thing is that I had never seen a Pez before, which surprised my other teammates.
To be fair, I don’t think we had this in our hometown while I was growing up, okay? I even asked my hometown friends to be sure, and one of them said, “What is that? A frog?” #CaseClosed
My seatmate Carly taught me how to load the candy into the Pez dispenser – “It’s like loading a stapler,” she said, but of course I did it wrongly by having to load all the candy in one by one instead of as a whole bunch. “OMG!” I wailed. “Am I starting to become a grandma?”
I eventually managed to load everything in with Carly’s help, after which she showed me that I could dispense the candy by pushing the head open. Pretty cool!
One last thing for me that came from GH’s luggage, by the way, is this Michael Kors saffiano tote bag that I had asked him to buy for me at a US outlet store. It was 50% off, so it amounted to 200+ sgd, which is definitely cheap, considering MK bags here would cost over 500 sgd usually.
Don’t I have the nicest teammates? 😊
Here’s a pic of my Halifax teammates with their families and GH, when they had a Saturday barbecue for GH.
According to GH, by the way, they think I’m in my twenties because of my high energy. He didn’t correct them. 😅
