I hate cooking and washing up afterwards, so I decided to sign up for daily food delivery from Nutrition Kitchen, which is more affordable than others I’ve seen in Hong Kong.
At first I signed up for a week just to test the food and also I wasn’t sure how early they would deliver the food; would they be delivered in time for me to bring them to work? The answer is yes. They usually deliver at 6ish am. I live in Wan Chai.
The food is chef quality as advertised, so I was extremely pleased. Each meal comes in a cardboard box which has the name of the meal plus ingredients and number of carbs and calories, which is extremely helpful for people who count calories.
While they are low carb, though, they are not low carb enough for the keto diet which recommends only 20 to 50 grams of carbs per day. The meals are also not high fat, which is the other piece of keto. So no, this is sadly not keto, but if you’re just looking into CICO or lowering your calorie count, I recommend Nutrition Kitchen. I get the small low carb lunch and dinner from them because I usually don’t eat breakfast.
After they passed my first week test with flying colours, I bit the bullet and booked the one month package, which gave me the most savings. By the way, do note that they don’t serve meals on weekends and public holidays, but you get charged per meal and not per period.
Anyway, here are some of their small low carb meals and my reviews of each one.
Chorizo spiced turkey meatballs (415 calories). I love chilli, so I really enjoyed this slightly spicy dish whose flavour profile reminded me of the aforementioned Mexican dish.
Pistachio crusted baked Alaskan halibut (350 calories). I don’t think I’ve tried pistachio-crusted fish before, so this was certainly interesting in a good way. The sauce is like spaghetti sauce and the greens are crunchy.
Korean marinated beef with young cabbage (436 calories). I love this. It’s like Korean beef bulgogi.
Chicken tikka masala (343 calories). I’m not a huge fan of tikka masala generally, so this isn’t a favourite, but it tastes good regardless.
Togarashi crusted tuna (445 calories). This is my favourite among all the meals I have tried from Nutrition Kitchen. The yuzu dressing really elevates the tuna to a whole new level.
Ground turkey enchilade stir fry (424 calories). Another delicious Mexican dish. Yum!
Chicken laksa (466 calories). This is a creative take on the Singaporean dish. I don’t think it tastes like the Singaporean laksa, but tastes good.
Beef taco bowl (485 calories). Again, I love Mexican food so I love this. It’s one of my faves.
I’m quite happy with the quality, so I’ll stick with them for now unless I find something cheaper.
