A lot of people were itching to go and do “revenge shopping” after the Covid-19 fifth wave restrictions were lifted on the 21st. First my friend May invited me out to Landmark last Saturday, then my friend Carol asked if I wanted to go to Harbour City on Sunday so she could collect shopping coupons and we could eat and shop. I said sure, because that’s what prisoners do when they are confronted by freedom.
A lot of my friends like shopping at Harbour City because of their coupons. What they do is if you buy 1500 hkd and above, you get coupons in return, which allow you to buy from select shops, and usually it’s like for every 300 hkd amount you can use a 100 hkd coupon, and there are also 500 hkd and 1000 hkd coupons. So if you’re planning to buy something expensive, you should head there.
She made a reservation for lunch at Kyoto Ichinoden, which became our fave restaurant in Harbour City after we had tried their wagyu rice bowl set from there last time. This is their menu:
We decided to try the wagyu cutlet this time around because it had a bigger portion of beef. However, when our order arrived and we realized that it was fried, we regretted it. It still tasted good, but not as good as the other one.
The set came with a salad appetizer and dessert.
After lunch, Carol redeemed her vouchers and then we went shopping. I was enamoured by the new pretty pastel packaging of Laneige makeup, so I bought a compact cushion. The product itself is okay, but honestly, It Cosmetics CC cream is way better on me. I can just use this as my carry on compact for touching up.
After a while, we realized we wanted to drink something, so Carol suggested going to Lady M. I’ve only ever been to the Singapore branch. There was a queue, but it moved on quickly and soon we were seated and ordering their mille crepe cake with ice cream set. I was amused to find that they had Dalgona coffee on their menu, so I ordered that in honor of 2020. Remember when that was a trend during the early pandemic?
The mille crepe is so smooth and silky and to die for. The ice cream is not necessary, but at least the rainbow milk flavored one I ordered – aside from looking pretty – also tasted good, unlike the chrysanthemum one that Carol got. She made a face each time she took a bite. I don’t know why she insisted on finishing it! The Dalgona coffee was also really good!
Then Carol’s friend Lani arrived, so we went shopping again, this time at Faccess and Lane Crawford. I did not buy anything this time, but did offer a lot of suggestions on what makeup to buy.
And then, afterwards, Lani suggested dinner, so we walked around and walked into a Japanese hot pot restaurant. I forgot its name, but it’s right beside Gyu- Kaku, which was our first option but which had a ridiculous queue. We ordered a set for 2 and added other stuff. The food was good, but not memorable.
Then Carol and Lani queued for coupons again, while I walked around Fortress nearby. Yes, I did not spend 1500, so I’m not that good at this revenge shopping thing. I did a lot of revenge eating in restaurants, though, maybe that still counts? I even ordered my fave chocolate fudge cake from Ralph’s Coffee for takeaway.
Anyway, this Samsung TV which looks like a framed painting when you’re not using it is a cute idea. My friend Cate, who is in Sydney, has one at her home.
Then we went home and oh boy, I was so tired from all the walking, I fell asleep immediately. I should not do this too often.
