Singapore Airlines

So I’m back from Taiwan and since I have yet to cull the photos from my friends’ cameras, I’ll post about my flight first. I know most people usually don’t make a big deal about that, but this is the first time I’ve flown on a non-budget flight on a non-work trip, so this was special for me. I used my miles to book myself a flight on Singapore Airlines because they have a good reputation, and you know what, all that feedback was right!

On my way to Taiwan I was seated next to a girl (who wore a mask over her nose and who was probably sick) so I wasn’t able to take too many pictures because I’m shy like that. Besides, I had also had only two hours of sleep and needed to catch up, so most of my flight was spent like this:

On the way back to Singapore, though, I didn’t have a seatmate, so I was very happy because I could move around freely. Before I got into the plane, though, I arrived at the airport way early, so I had plenty of time to kill. My cellphone was nearly dead so I couldn’t sur the web. Luckily I found some PCs set up for just that purpose. Then my feet grew weary from standing, so I found a nice cafe where I could savor a cup of mocha while reading a book on my kindle.

The plane was big, with three rows of seats and twice as long as the budget airline planes I’m normally used to. Each passenger had his own TV and a small pillow and thick blanket. There were lots of shows and movies to choose from, popular shows and new movies too.

Also unlike budget airlines, they served meals. There were two choices and I chose oriental, which was composed of stir-fried pork in black pepper sauce with chinese vegetables and rice. It came with a side dish of poached chicken and beancurd salad with ginger-spring onion dressing, a roll of bread with butter, a choice of coffee or tea, a small pineapple cake (a popular Taiwanese delicacy) and a cup of Haagen Dazs strawberry ice cream. Everything was yummy except for the bread which was a bit too hard.

Bonus treat: Haagen Dazs! So yum!

It takes 4.5 hours to fly from Singapore to Taipei, so an in-flight entertainment system really helps to pass the time. Luckily they had a wide range of show and movies to choose from, ranging from popular new shows/movies to old classics. On the way to Taiwan I watched some episodes of Sherlock, Big Bang Theory, New Girl and the first half of the movie Rock of Ages (I hated it so I didn’t finish the movie and decided to sleep instead.) On the way back, I watched two new movies that I had missed seeing on the big screen – Ted and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. And because I am super easily moved to tears, I actually cried during both movies. I took a picture to see what I look like crying. Haha.

Super easily moved to tears. LOL.

It was a very enjoyable flying experience. I guess I gotta rack up those miles again, huh. In the meantime I need to settle for budget airlines again.

  1. OMG I didn't know about that. Coffee and food on the ceilings! And those poor injured people. Scary. I've been on a flight that also went through a terrible turbulunce though, it did feel like being on a rollercoaster like those people said. My friends and I were holding hands and praying out loud all throughout.
