Langkawi, Malaysia {Deetour}

I had always been interested in heading to Langkawi, so last year when I saw a fare sale being advertised on Tiger Air, I immediately told my friends Maya and Gay about it and asked if they wanted to go. Since it’s just nearby, we could go on a weekend so they didn’t have to take leaves, so they said yes. I took a leave, however, because our flight was at 8pm on a Friday and my work shift ends at 8pm. It was totally fine with me because I still had 29 VLs left even though it was already the middle of the year.

Langkawi-priceless

So I booked our flights and proceeded to search for a cheap but decent hotel. How do you do this? Go to TripAdvisor. You can sort hotels by price range or rating and read reviews too. Thanks to the site I found out that The Cottage Langkawi was just a 10-minute walk away from the beach, so when I saw that they had only 2 nice rooms left, I panicked and booked them stat. They turned out to be really good rooms and really that close to the beach, as the reviews said. Thanks, TripAdvisor! 😀

The flight from Singapore to Langkawi took about an hour and a half.

When we landed, we immediately found a booth selling island hopping packages and booked one. I knew we got a good deal because I had researched prices online beforehand. It’s cheaper if you buy it there instead of online.

The package was worth it.

We rode a ferry, and on our way to the Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park, we had a view of the pregnant maiden lake. It is called thus because the mountains apparently look like a pregnant maiden on repose. Do you see it?

Then we headed to the geopark, where we took a hike to get to an enclosed swimming area.

I was just so excited to go swimming because it was a very hot day.

We stayed there for a while, then we got back into our ferry.

We paused in the middle of the ocean to feed the eagles. Do you see all those black specks in the sky? Those are all eagles. There were so many of them! It was mesmerizing to watch them all in flight.langkawi 5

After that we headed to a very beautiful beach with white sand.

We were so excited to spread our shawls on the sand for a mini picnic.

There was just one catch – monkeys.

There were monkeys all over the place. One of them jumped onto our picnic area. I screeched and used my monopod to try and scare it away, but I couldn’t bear to hurt it, so it didn’t work. To my horror, it made a move to unzip my tote bag! I tried waving my monopod near it again and grabbed my bag, and this time, it went away.

I HATE MONKEYS. Seriously! My friends and I have had several bad experiences with them already.

After the tour, we went back to our hotel and had dinner at this wonderful restaurant called Orkid Ria, which had really delicious food. Then we went for shopping and massages. It was so ridiculously humid on the streets that I kept on buying coconut smoothies and ice cream to stave off the heat.

The next day, we woke up early and looked for breakfast because our hotel stay did not include one. We ended up at this place called Breakfast Station which had awful service and food. It took them forever to serve our food which was not delicious at all.

Then we walked to the beach and took loads of pictures, some of them prenup photos for Leo and Gay.

It was such a breathtakingly beautiful beach!

I wanted to stay forever, but we had to eat, so we eventually walked down the streets again to look for lunch and decided to have it at Artisan pizza. I thought their pizza was pretty good. Leo and Gay ended up having upset tummies afterwards. I can’t remember what they ordered, I think it was chicken barbecue. Maya and I had pizza and did not have any issues.

So while the couple went back to the hotel, Maya and I went back on the beach and found lounge chairs with an umbrella. We lay there, and someone came and asked us to pay a small fee to rent it.

While Maya slept, I read a book on my kindle.

The cool sea breeze fanned me, and I had the perfect view. BLISS!

Then suddenly, a torrential downpour came out of nowhere, and the wind was so strong and violent that we had to leave. Darn it.

Still, it was definitely fun while it lasted. I am now hankering for the beach again!

  1. Waah! This makes me miss the heat and the beach all the more! So this is where gay had their pre-nup. Hehe. Miss travelling in Asia with cheap fares. Ok, so many things I am missing! Haha! Btw, love your pretty hats! 🙂

  2. What a gorgeous beach! I love your photos – they are so real and fresh. And that is, by the way an AMAZING price! I wish traveling around here cost so little!

  3. These photos make me want to go to the beach soon! What a beautiful place. And reading near the ocean is one of my favorite activities – it just doesn’t get any more relaxing than that. 🙂

I also agree about the monkeys. It sounds like these were very aggressive and that can ruin an otherwise good setting. I love to watch monkeys, but once they start trying to get things, it’s time to move on. 🙂
