The Greatest Showman {Movie Review}
Yesterday, my teammate YM mentioned that he had seen The Greatest Showman and liked it even though he doesn’t usually like musicals, so I decided, on a whim, to use the free movie voucher that I got from our office D&D to watch it at 9:45 pm. I probably could have waited till the weekend to watch it, but the voucher could only be used from Mondays to Wednesdays. 😁
On the way to the cinema, I was chatting with Jemma and Mildred when I told Jemma, “If you’re not feeling lazy, you can join me.” She happened to be on her way home as well, so she agreed to go. 😁
We both ended up liking the movie. To be fair, we both love musicals, so it was bound to happen.
It’s an uplifting musical with a story partly based on reality, on the life of Phineas Taylor Barnum, the founder of the Barnum & Bailey Circus. His character is played by Hugh Jackman, who isn’t new to the musical scene even though he is best known as Wolverine in the X-Men films.
The plot is simple, so it’s not deeply emotional like Les Miserables, but also not as shallow as High School Musical. It’s also apparently historically inaccurate, so just think of it as entirely fiction if you don’t want the nitpicking to ruin it for you.
The songs are catchy – I found my feet tapping along to the notes from the first minutes the film unveiled. My fave piece is called A MillionDreams, which stirs fuzzy hopeful emotions in me whenever I listen to it. Turns out I’m not the only one that loved this, because so far, everyone I talk to love this best, too.
Overall, it was an enjoyable film.
