We had our company annual yearend party a bit earlier this year. It’s usually held in December, but this time around it was done in the last week of November.
Another deviation from the usual is that they decided not to blow most of the budget on some fancy shmancy hotel and picked Hard Rock Cafe so that they could spend a lot on awesome raffle draw prizes. By “awesome” I mean macbook pro, go pro camera, digital camera, iPad air, iPhone 6, $2000 travel vouchers, etc etc.
We still went with a theme though, something that fit the venue perfectly – glam rock! 💎
I initially planned to wear a dress I already own, one with a black leather top part and a red flared skirt. But on the day of the event, I accidentally put it in the washing machine with my other laundry, and since we don’t have a dryer, I wasn’t sure it would dry on time.
So I dropped by New Look and used a $50 discount voucher to get me a leather jacket, and they turned out to be having a 50% sale on all dresses, so I got a sparkly dress too. ☺️
Then I got a haircut from NK Hairworks and asked the artist to blow-dry it curly. It took a while because there were a lot of people in the salon too. Then I rushed home to dress up and put on makeup and walked out looking like this:
My roommate Maybelle and I had a really hard time looking for a cab, but luckily I managed to book one using GrabTaxi app. That night there was also traffic, for some reason. Traffic in Singapore? Now I’ve seen everything!
When we arrived, we handed over our personalised tickets, half of which was our raffle draw entry. This was my first time to set foot in Hard Rock Cafe, and I thought the place looked great. The full two floors had been reserved for us.
The place had really cold air conditioning, so our leather jackets were perfect! 😀
We arrived just moments before dinner was announced. We had our fill of a scrumptious western buffet. But the buffet most people were interested in was not of food but drinks.
Some people had way too many tequila shots. One of those people may or may not have been me.
Okay, I admit, one of those people was me. I got so drunk that when they pushed me on the stage to compete for best costume, I obliged quite willingly.
I did not win. Neither did my friend Nikki, even though she wore that very fabulous outfit you see above. The prize went to the best performers Mindy and Marc.
But you know who should’ve won aside from Nikki? Our new big boss Junior, who wore an electric blue unitard, a neon pink vest and wig to match, and silver metallic boots.
There was a funny story behind that outfit. He said the store clerk suggested it for him, but when he modelled it for his wife on Skype, she told him: “Don’t wear that!” So he didn’t, but he told us that if we donated at least $200 to charity, he’ll put it on for 10 minutes. We collected $400. Haha.
Aside from performing on stage, drunk me also got so enamoured with taking selfies, apparently! I woke up the next day to all these on my phone:
My favourite selfie was not taken by me, however, but by my SVP, and the professional photographer caught us on camera doing it. A picture of people taking a picture! Pic-ception! Love it! 👍
Even though I don’t remember everything that happened that night, the parts I do remember was very fun! It’s quite possibly the most enjoyable yearend party we’ve ever had in the company, actually! 😀
P.S. I didn’t win any of the raffle prizes but my friends Jemma and Hari won an iPad air and iPhone 6. All I got was a travel adapter for participating in the dance-off. Pfft. 😒
P.P.S. At one instance, our big boss James asked me where my leather jacket was because I had taken it off. Much later when I was already in bed sleeping, I woke up, remembered that moment, and in a moment of panic, thought, OMG where is my jacket indeed??? so I got up to look for it. In the dark. In my bedroom. I found, it by the way.
P.P.P.S. My friends told me a story about how one of my former teammates, Raw, had approached them to say that I was about to pass out. They just giggled and said, “That’s okay!” The next day, someone shared a video of one of our friends sitting on the sidewalk begging us to take her home while the rest of us just ignored her and kept on giggling in a giddy fit. Lesson learned: we’re terrible friends when we’re drunk! 😅
