On the 28th of November, our company had our annual yearend dinner and dance (D&D) at the Alkaff Mansion’s Grand Marquee. Since the Alkaff Mansion was built in 1918, we thought the perfect theme for the party would be: The Roaring Twenties.
The Alkaff Mansion is known for their superb Italian food cooked by a Michelin-starred chef, so I really enjoyed stuffing my face full at the buffet. Since I’m part of the social committee again, I was able to attend a taste test session a week earlier, so I was able to tell people that they should definitely prioritize the lasagna and veal with truffle mashed potatoes.
I somehow ended up sitting at one of the VIP tables because our social committee head insisted that after all the work I had done for the party, I was one. Haha! I was even more surprised when one of the MDs ended up sitting next to me.
After dinner, there was a short program. The emcee started out by picking 3 pairs to act out “MTV” versions of three songs. Somehow, I got picked to be one of those people, but my partner Vivek (our SVP) really did everything, all I did was just cheer him on and tried not to die from laughter and shock at seeing a man in his forties break-dancing on the stage.
But the guy who stole the show was James, who poured a glass of water all over his head, threw glasses and chairs, and wowed all by his dramatic performance to the song “Fixing a Broken Heart.”
After that, my team went onstage to do a musical. 😄 We asked some of the upper management to join us at the end.
We had spent a lot of time thinking up the lyrics, recording the songs, putting together the track and lyrics video, and rehearsing it, but it was the most fun project to ever be done by the projects team, for sure!
Then as if I hadn’t had enough stage time already, I was nominated for best-dressed and I had to get up onstage again. 😅
I didn’t win, but the woman in blue in the picture below did. But while I loved her dress, I preferred the outfit of the woman in white, also in the pic below, because it looks just like the one in the Great Gatsby movie!
There were a few other musical performers and raffle draw prizes. Then while all this was going on, people took photos with everyone else. My British teammate commented: “Only in Asia are pictures more important than food.” 😂
My favourite photos of the night were these “before and after” photos:
I definitely enjoyed this party!
