After our daycation at Kerry, May’s hubby Mico joined us for dinner at Bbq Han Cook. We didn’t immediately find it, though. We just knew we wanted to have Korean barbecue, so we wandered around the Whampoa area to look for one. We came across this interesting mall which looks like a ship.
At first we followed the Google Map to another Korean place but it turned out to be just a takeaway restaurant, so we walked down a couple of alleys before stumbling upon Bbq Han Cook, which looked and smelled promising.
They had a table for us at the small place which was manned by just one waitress, so we couldn’t exactly blame her when she made simple mistakes such as giving us the wrong soup – beef rib instead of the tofu we ordered. She quickly and happily rectified her mistake once she was informed, though, so it was all good.
We ordered the samgyupsal set for three which came with all the fixings for samgyupsal (marinated bbq meat, lettuce, sauces) along with japchae noodles, soup, side dishes, rice, and sodas of our choice.
We we were quite happy with the quality and quantity. We thought the food tasted legit enough, not that we are Koreans so what do we really know? 😅 But we really thought it tasted delicious. The meat was marinated really well and there was enough side dishes, sauces and lettuce to my liking.
If you’re not familiar with how the Korean samgyupsal works, it’s like this: you cook the meat yourself over the hot plate at the center of the table. Once done, you take the meat, dip it into one or all of the available sauces, place it into a lettuce leaf with a piece or garlic or whatever else you feel like, then wrap the lettuce around it and eat it.
I love lettuce so I prefer to eat it this way, but some people prefer to eat the meat with rice.
I’m not near this area at all but if I see another Bbq Han Cook somewhere else, I definitely wouldn’t mind dropping by!
