For May’s birthday on June 4, she planned a full day’s worth of activities. I said we should call it a Maycaytion – a play on her name plus staycation, get it? 😁
Brunch at Kitchen W
Part 1 was buffet breakfast at Kitchen W. The set up is so beautiful, like something worthy of a glassblower’s catalogue.
There were plenty of options aside from that table, they had a whole variety of options from cold cuts, mini pancakes you can make yourself, breads which you can toast, congee, dimsum, rice, eggs, salads, cereals, yogurt, bagels, cheese, you name it, they probably have it.
I grabbed some mini doughtnuts, a muffin, and a bagel, arranged them on a plate, brought out some pretty birthday candles and a lighter and voila: a birthday cake!
When I asked birthday girl to make a wish, she instead gave a speech about how grateful she was that she met me because we really hit it off, and I said the feeling was mutual and we were both suddenly weeping like idiots. 😅
Swimming at Ritz-Carlton
We had booked a birthday package at Ritz-Carlton which included a 1 hour massage, 1.5 hours pool access, and a tea set. We had to set the timing for them.
Part 2 was the pool at the 118th floor. We stashed our stuff and got changed in their locker room before walking to the pool area.
They have an indoor infinity swimming pool with breathtaking views of Hong Kong skyline, with a 28m x 7m mirrored ceiling and high-resolution LED wall.
While taking photos in the pool, we noticed a couple taking a video of themselves on the mirrored ceiling and of course had to copycat.
We also noticed another couple relaxing on the big corner day bed with pillows and coveted their spot. Luckily, they left early so we managed to snag it.
A pool boy was kind enough to take photos for us. Great customer service!
Massage at the Ritz-Carlton Spa
Part 3 was massage at the spa at the 116th floor. We were late to our spa appointment so we had to rush through the checking in. But we did still manage to get our pictures taken at this spot.
This was where they washed our feet and asked us to choose what scent we wanted for our massage oil and if we were fine with pink sand clay for our scalp massage.
These robes are so soft on the inside, by the way! I want one!
The massage I got involved a lot of stretching and repositioning and was really pleasant.
However since we were late, we didn’t get the full hour and it felt bitin. We really regretted this later on so make sure to not be late to your appointment coz they’re a busy spa!
After the treatment, they led us to a relaxation room with reclining lounge chairs where they served fruits, nuts, yogurt, and tea.
Tea at The Lounge and Bar at Ritz-Carlton
Part 4 was tea time at the 102nd floor at The Lounge and Bar, described as a Hong Kong bar with a front-row seat to the skyline.
From their website: “Those seeking sophisticated dining and a remarkable view may find themselves at The Lounge & Bar in the heart of Kowloon. The space was designed for lingering with tables and chairs positioned to look out of the floor-to-ceiling windows and over the water and Hong Kong skyline.”
We were asked to pick what flavour of tea we wanted from a menu. I recognized them as TWG teas because Silver Moon was on the list and it’s my favourite. May picked that while I went with a red tea called choco mint truffle tea. We were each served a pot of refillable tea along with an appealing tray of tea treats.
That edible “Happy Birthday” sign is a cute touch!
We couldn’t finish everything on the tray and asked to take the leftovers away, which they kindly obliged.
We decided to take pictures in a glittery hallway and a kind server led us all the way into another hall which looked prettier.
Again, superb customer service!
Dinner at Yakiniku
Part 5 was supposed to be shopping, but we didn’t end up buying anything because the sandals May wanted wasn’t available in her size.
So we went to her home and rested for a bit before heading to Jordan for part 6 – yakiniku dinner at a restaurant she found on Eatigo.
This time we were joined by Mico, May’s husband. He couldn’t take a leave because the first week of the month is crazy busy for his line of work.
They had their own couple’s celebration the next day, though, so it’s all good!
They even asked me to hang out at their hotel suite after dinner, which we spent watching The Queen, which I’ve always wanted to watch but could never find on Netflix.
It was a fun day! It’s nice to have an excuse to take a vacation when you can’t do the old normal travel!
