La Spezia, Italy {Deetour}

After our Topdeck tour ended in Rome, we took a train to La Spezia, Italy, where we had booked an Airbnb where we could stay while exploring Cinque Terre, which is near the town.

I thought the place deserved a separate post because we did explore the place a little, and I also really loved the apartment that we rented!

Not only was the apartment so clean and beautiful, but the owner provided really excellent service, too. She fetched us at the train station with her car, pointed out tips while driving, then when we got to her apartment, she had a folder full of clippings and tips on what to do in La Spezia.

She also had some free food in the cupboards, simple things like oil for cooking, and some bread and other snacks.

It was truly a beautiful place to come home to for three nights, one that really felt like home! After 10 days of fast-paced traveling with energetic, rowdy twenty-somethings, I can’t tell you how great it felt to finally be able to relax. The past days had been exhausting and it had taken a toll on my health in the form of a bad cough.

I needed a vacation to recover from my vacation.

Looks like this was exactly what the doctor ordered!

We explored the small, sleepy, very Italian-looking town at a leisurely pace, trying some of the food recommended by our host, or, when we couldn’t figure out where to go, just drop by whatever place happened to look enticing.

We decided to cook dinner one night and bought more groceries from a nearby shop.

Kes cooked us some pasta (because of course you should eat pasta in Italy!) and we ate it on the balcony with the bottle of wine that the host had also given us.

As we sipped our wine and watched the moon rise over the rooftops, I remember thinking to myself, this, right here, is the life.

Then on the rest of the days, we took the train to Cinque Terre, because that was what we had gone there for.
