We had our office annual yearend dinner & dance on December 9 at the Ritz Carlton Millenia.
The theme was Show Time – as in movies and television, or hollywood. We were supposed to come as characters in movies or television, but I wasn’t in the mood to be in costume, so I just put on a blouse and long skirt and jewelry and curled my hair.
Upon registering, each employee was given a Golden Village movie voucher. While waiting for the event to begin, we ate popcorn and nachos – cinema food – a nice touch to fit the theme.
There were a couple of photo booths. I dragged Yan Ming and Ryan to get a photo at the traditional one. The work-appropriate props were pretty funny. 😂
Then when the program still didn’t start after that, I dragged Yan Ming to join the queue for the other photo booth which curiously had multiple DSLRs in a row in front of the studio area. Turns out it was not your usual photo booth – the output is 3D, kind of like that scene from the Sherlock wedding episode.
How cool, right?!?
When finally, the doors opened and we stepped into the ballroom, I was blown away by the beautiful strings of lights dangling across the centerstage, like a scene from a movie.
Note to self: totally steal this idea for a future event! We sat down at our assigned tables and had a delicious fancy dinner.
A band serenaded us, and a slideshow of pictures taken throughout the year was flashed on screen. Then the emcee asked the people who dressed up to come to the center stage beneath the lights and participate in some games.
Yes, that tyrannosaurus rex is somebody’s costume. Can you believe it?
Unfortunately he didn’t win the best costume award because that went to the person who won the games. It was one of the ninja turtles, who surprised everyone when he managed to twirl the emcee on his shoulders like he’s some kind of wrestler!
There was also a raffle draw, but unlike last year when I won $500 travel vouchers, I didn’t win this time. Oh well, must not be greedy! 😁
As is the custom for these parties, we went around taking photos with colleagues.
But the most fun part was the after-party, when they played dance music and everyone just went dancing under the lights. It was so fun that when the music stopped, people yelled for more. They obliged with one or two songs, then started taking the lights down.
There was another after-party elsewhere after this but I was too tired and also didn’t want to spend a lot of money on booze. #signsofaging
