We had our office Winter Wonderland themed Dinner & Dance last December 7 at Marina Bay Sands Hibiscus Ballroom and it was quite fun. My roommate Jemma and I decided to put an effort into our outfits and even had our hair done at a neighbourhood salon. Jemma asked for Elsa’s hairdo and I went with an updo and clipped on a white piece of hair, kind of like Anna’s.
There’s actually a story behind my outfit. I had bought this dress from The Velvet Dolls last year in October, hoping that I would lose enough weight to fit into it in time for my friend Maybelle’s wedding in February this year. I was overly ambitious because the dress was 2 sizes too small for me when I bought it and even last month when I tried it on again when I realized it could fit our D&D theme, I still couldn’t zip it closed – I needed to lose an inch or more from my chest.
Nevertheless I bought a faux fur scarf from Shopee and a pair of Ria Menorca ombre silver-and-blue glitter wedge espadrilles, thinking I could wear these to accessorize either the lavender dress or another backup outfit which consisted of a black tulle skirt and top.
A couple of days before the D&D I tried on the lavender dress again, and to my pleasant surprise, it fit! OMG! A Christmas miracle! Okay, maybe not a miracle, exactly, but the result of hard work – diet, Pruvit ketones, and weekly exercise with a PT. Jemma had a similar story with her own Cinderella dress, which I had found for her on Shopee.
My over five years old Zara faux diamond choker and gem stickers on top of my makeup completed my look.
There were three photo booths at the event, but only one was good, and it involved a gif. The standard photo booth was super lame, the lens was too close up and the lighting was too harsh, making us look oily. The third one was some kind of kaleidoscope thingy that didn’t make sense either. Oh well, at least we had our own phones and could ask people to take photos of us!
And we had some official photographers, too, who went around and captured moments.
Aside from pictorials of course there was also food – a standard wedding type sit down dinner food which was good but not outstanding, and a live band whose singer’s voice was so soothing, we didn’t realize he was live! We had also hired an emcee who facilitated a program that included announcement of the office decors contest, raffle draw winners, games, and best dressed competition.
We won second place for office decors, woohoo!
And then Jemma and I were called up to the stage as candidates for best dressed. Four ladies were paired up with four men, and we had to do some sort of performance so that the audience can use that as a gage for the winner.
In the end, Cinder-Elsa and Olaf won! So well deserved!
This was followed by an after party that we were too tired to attend. People were raving about that after party, but Cinderella needed to be home before midnight and Aurora needed her beauty sleep. 😅
